Nineteen
young hopefuls faced the judges, on Wednesday June 30th, to battle
it out in Swindon's first ever Pop Idol contest.
Facing a packed auditorium, at the Commonweal School in Swindon, were
eighteen girl wanabees and Elliott Watling the only guy man enough
to take on the girls.
With a prize fund of £100 and an enormous cup up for grabs the
competition was fierce.
Belting out smash hits like Vanessa Carlton's 'A Thousand Miles'
and
'S Club 7's 'Natural' the
judges were blown away by the first rate performances on stage.
In particular
Genevieve Aylott's perfect rendition of Avril Lavigne's
smash 'Sk8er Boi' was a hot contender as was Katy Embling's
version of LeAnn Rimes' hit 'How Do I Live'.
But for sheer star quality you had to hand it to Elliot Watling
with his fantastic Robbie William's cover 'Rock DJ' and 8 year old
Taya Baxter's was top 'Cheeky Cheeky' with the 'Cheeky Girls' hit.
In the end, though, the amazing voice of Katie Langan singing the
classic from the Wizard of Oz 'Over the Rainbow' won the night.
Fantastic.
