DAVID HEMPLEMAN-ADAMS MBE OBE
 

David Hempleman-Adams was born in Swindon in 1956 and attended Morden School.

David Hempleman-Adams is also a motivational speaker and runs the Mitchemp Trust.

The Trust provides young people from deprived backgrounds with the chance to try outdoor activities designed to build confidence.

Hempleman-Adams facts Animated arrows

He has completed 29 expeditions around the world including:

Climbing Everest (Nepal), Mount Vinson (Antarctica), Aconcagua (Argentina), Carstenz Pyramid (Indonesia), Elbrus (Russia), Kilimanjaro (Tanzania).

1981 - He was a member of the team which, in 1981, achieved one of the fastest ascents of Mount McKinley (Alaska).

1984 - First person to successfully complete a solo expedition to Magnetic North Pole without the support of dogs, snowmobiles or air supplies.

1992 - He lead the first team to walk unsupported to the North Geomagnetic Pole. (The story of these journeys is in his book "A Race Against Time").

1996 - January 5th 1996 he became the first Briton to walk solo and unsupported to the South Pole.

1996 - In February of that year he sailed to the South Magnetic Pole, becoming the first person to do so in the same year.

1998 - David reached the North Geographic Pole and in so doing completed the Adventures' Grand Slam: he has climbed the highest mountain on each continent and reached the North and South Geographic and Magnetic Poles.

2000 - First person to pilot an open-basket balloon to the North Pole.

2003 - First man to walk alone to the North Pole. He was forced to complete the last 60 miles with a broken ankle after a fall.
