Children in Salisbury are being
invited to set sail on the high seas with a series of pirate-inspired
fun sessions at the library.
The
adventure starts on Monday, April 14, with the creation of a treasure
island collage between 10am and 12pm and again between 1pm and 3pm.
Children
will be able to build pirate ships out of junk at two sessions held
on Tuesday, April 15, between 10am and 12pm and again between 1pm
and 3pm.
The
excitement continues on Wednesday, April 16, when children will
have the chance to be a pirate.
Sessions
will be held between 10am and 12pm and again between 1pm and 3pm.
On Thursday, April 17, there will be painting and the chance to
make models of sharks and other dangerous deepsea monsters.
The
session will be held between 10am and 12pm.
Other
events at Salisbury library include rhymes and stories for children
aged under five, between 2pm and 2.30pm on Tuesday, April 22.
There
will be a session of bouncing clapping and jumping for children
aged under two on Wednesday, April 23, between 10.30am and 11am
at Salisbury library.
On
Tuesday, April 15, there will be a sale of surplus books, CDs, videos,
cassettes and CD-ROMs between 9.30am and 4.30pm at The Portico,
Salisbury library.
At Devizes library there will
be a "Dinosaur Eggstravaganza" on Wednesday, April 16 and Wednesday,
April 23 between 10.30am and 12pm for children aged between seven
and 11.
Devizes
community librarian Wendy Beaver said: "There will be dinosaur stories
and poems. We'll be making dinosaur eggs, dinosaur models and head-dresses
and there will be a dinosaur hunt. Tickets are free from the library.
"The
fun continues on Friday, April 25 when there will be a "Dinosaur
Stomp" between 11am and 12pm for children aged between four and
seven with dinosaur stories and crafts."
A number
of other events are also being held at Devizes library during the
Easter holidays.
For
children under five, on Tuesday, April 15, between 10am and 11.25am,
there will be finger-painting, play dough cutting and sticking in
the first hour and rhymes, songs and finger rhymes in the last 25
minutes.
On
Tuesday, April 22, there will be a special musical session with
Susan Partridge for children aged under two between 11am and 11.30am
and for children aged between three and five between 11.45am and
12.15pm.
On
Friday 25, between 2.15pm and 2.45pm there will be a storytime for
children under five.
During
the holiday break, there will be an Easter egg hunt around the children's
library in Devizes.
At Westbury library children
and their carers are invited to drop in between Monday, April 14
and Saturday, April 26 during opening hours to take part in decorating
Easter eggs and arranging flowers in Easter baskets.
There
will also be holiday children storytimes on Thursday, April 17 and
Thursday, April 24 between 11.30am and 12pm.
Children
must be accompanied by an adult for both the drop in sessions and
the storytimes.
Marlborough
library is holding a really wild wildlife session featuring stories,
crafts and creatures, for children aged between four and nine on
Wednesday, April 23, between 2pm and 3.30pm.
A poetry workshop for children is being held at Bradford-on-Avon
library during the Easter holiday. Australian poet Mike Leigh is
leading the event that is being held for children aged between nine
and 11. The event has been organised by the Wiltshire County Council-run
library and it will be held on Tuesday, April 15, between 2.30pm
and 4pm. The council is committed to providing a comprehensive library
service for everyone in the county. Community librarian Penny England
said: "Children can bring along their own poems to perform. It should
be a lot of fun."
