Work will start on 9 September 2002, programmed to last 12 weeks.

These works will cost in excess of £2.5 million.

The works are expected to operate at least 6 days a week for at least 12 hours per day. Working periods have to be limited due to the proximity of residential property and the noise created by piling operations.

This morning Wiltshire commuters are being warned that they could face long delays due to the closure of one of the county's major routes.

The A36, at Limpley Stoke, is being closed for 12 weeks between Warminster and Bath.

Traffic will be diverted off the A36, at Warminster, onto the A350 towards Chippenham and will then either continue towards Bath along the A4 or on the A350 to the M4.

Long distance traffic is being advised to use the M3, A34 and M4.

The closure and diversion is due to subsidence on the stretch of road at Limpley Stoke.

In order to carry out major stabilisation and resurfacing work the Highway Agency say that the road had to be closed.

But Project Manager Peter Bartlett says he wants to minimize disruption for motorists:

"We're starting now in September and we're hopefully going to be complete by the end of November.

"We've avoided the holiday traffic towards Bath and beyond, we've put up signs on the side of the road weeks and weeks in advance and we've produced leaflets. We're informing lorry drivers, as they come into the country at ports, by producing foreign language information so that hopefully they can avoid the area all together."

Commuters are also being advised that local northbound traffic will be able to use the B3110 between Woolverton and Bath.

This route, however, is not being publicised outside of the area as it is unsuitable for all vehicles.
