Longleat's
latest work of art is due to be unveiled later this afternoon.
For the last six weeks the estate's artist in residence has been sculpting
a 3' by 4' work out of English Limestone.

Basically
it has a stage that the two figures stand on. The man is standing
strong and upright with his hands open and is looking down
towards his small child.

'Flower
and Seed', based upon the relationship of a new father to his young
son, was carved and hand polished in full view of the summer visitors
to Longleat.
Stone
sculptor, Nicolas Moreton, describes the piece:
"Basically it has a stage that the two figures stand on. The
man is standing strong and upright with his hands open and is looking
down towards his small child.
"The child is just sitting and looking up at his father, hopefully,
in admiration."
Creating the sculpture has, according to Nicholas, raised a lot of
interesting comments from children and adults alike.
As has the adjoining sculpture exhibition "Passages" which
is currently being exhibited in Longleat's Formal gardens.
Eight stone carvings, including a seven foot tall naked man and a
baby in a mothers womb, make up the exhibition which have been on
display since the end of July.
"Flower and Seed" will be unveiled at 2pm this afternoon
along with a picture board display which will show how the piece was
made. |
