Moonraking: ET SEARCH 239
Members of the ET SEARCH 239 team

BBC Radio Swindon, BBC Radio Wiltshire and the BBC Wiltshire website mount one of the biggest UFO searches on radio and the web.

One of BBC Wiltshire's 'UFOs'

On Friday 16th July the BBC in Wiltshire set up camp at two of Wiltshire's UFO hot spots and broadcast LIVE through the night to see if anything would happen!

Despite the prospect the low cloud and rain, the enthusiam of the team wasn't dampened and although evidence of UFO activity wasn't very evident, the star gazers were rewarded with the occasional glimpse of the night sky and its stars - including a clear sighting of the International Space Station.

The two sites included Westbury's Bratton Camp, where a Star Party was held by the Wiltshire Astronomical Society.

The other location, intially kept secret, was Cley Hill near Warminster, where a group of keen skywatchers gathered to discuss the idea of UFOs and extra terrestrial activity.

Listeners around the world were able to hear the broadcast, as well as people in Wiltshire, and the programme invited people to share their thoughts - some of which we've published below.

Stay out there for at least a week and see what happens!! Don't just give it one day!! DON'T BROADCAST IT THE PUBLIC UNTIL THE ACTUAL EVENT UNFOLDS!! So there is no way "anyone" can 'sabatoge' the 'mission'!!

I live in NW, uk,some years ago while letting my dogs out on the back last thing at night,approx.1.00 a.m.,I was looking up at the clear sky and the faintest stars, when I saw a group of 'stars' moving!...there where 16-20 pinpoints of light that were moving together as a group, and overtaking each other in a random manner/pattern, while 'flying' together,I watched as this cluster of lights performed a 45-ish degree horizontal 'loop',from travelling from the North to the west, and they shot off into the West at tremendous speed.I called my missus outside and told her what I had just seen, and while we both looked into the night sky, another 2 similar objects appeared at tremendous speed from the east, and went following in the same direction as the first group. We both saw these 2 objects and were amazed.I lived near Manchester airport and was aware of what aircraft look like at night, and my (basic) interest in astronomy means also that I am familiar with meteors, satellite's etc. What we saw defies any rational explanation.I contacted the airport to ask had they any reports or any other witnesses and was not greeted at all well, or seriously for that matter!,sadly we'll never know what they were, but they were quite remarkable.

Hi, I have not published this story before, you might find it mildly interesting. Back in about 1974 I was stationed at RAF Brize Norton. On one particular day two of us were on security duty at lunchtime. It was a clear day , bright blue sky, and looking past the big hangar we saw a small orange light, about "O" so big, this was making a very thick vapour trail. We didn't think too much of this at the time, passing it off as an aircraft using reheat. On the ITV news that evening was our object, apparently an ITV crew had been filming in Banbury and they spotted it and filmed it. The interesting thing is that it still appeared round from their different perspective so it wasn't an aircraft, it was a sphere and unidentified. Thats it. Cheers, Al.

I remember seeing what I thought was a UFO hovering over the edge of Salisbury Plain, a few summers ago. It was so distinctive that I had to pull over so I didn't crash the car! Although it was very much in the distance I could see a cigar shaped object 'hanging' over one spot to the eastern side of the Plain. I was able to watch it for sometime and watch it slowly move further away - it moved very slowly. I couldn't think what it was and I was convinced this was a UFO - of either this earth or another! However, after making some enquiries, I found out that it wasn't unidentified - it was an airship being used to advertise something!!! I was disappointed it wasn't anything more mysterious - but at least I found out what it was!

Team, Back in October 1993, I left Bridport just before dark and took a short cut lane to Maiden Newton in Dorset from the A35. Suddenly I passed a bright light through a gap in the hedge. I backed the car to have a look. There were two oval objects going around each other. They were both fuzzy and brilliantly white but around every 3 seconds gave out a beam of light as intense as a welding torch which made me turn away. After about a minute, I realised that when the intense beam of light happened, I could feel cold on the cheek unlike heat when near a bonfire. Remembering how cold energy was deemed a no no years before, I really did get worried and drove off a little way to another gap in the hedge but thre were no other sightings. This suggested they were in the field but close to the hedge. There was no noise which a vehicle like a tractor would make. Have gone that way many times since in Octobers but never seen anything like that since.

I am more interested in the things associated with UFOs such as cattle mutilation, bigfoot and phantom dog sightings and especially the military and in particular, Helicopters... When I lived in Swindon, I used to go walking all around Pewsey Vale: the Kennet-Avon Canal, The West Woods, The White Horse and all areas in between. On the vast majority of those occasions I would see helicopters, normally in military livery, but on a fair few occasions they were black with no indentifying markings at all. I know that being on the edge of Salisbury Plain would explain the military prescence, but they almost seemed to be following me. On some occasions I was alone, on others I was with my dog and on one occasion I was with about a dozen other walkers. This was perhaps the most interesting. We were very obvious, in our bright waterproof jackets and rucksacks, walking between Martinsell Hill Fort and the village of Oare. I can't remember the time of year, but the weather was clear and windy. Anyway, we were walking towards Oare, when two Military helicopters just appeared right in front of us over the hedges towards the bottom of the terraced hillside. This greatly excited our group as the helicopters were only about a hundred feet away but we hadn't heard them at all. I surmised that they were practicing low level flying and chose to have a little fun with us. What we all commented on was how quiet they were. They weren't totally silent, but were very quiet, much more than any other helicopter I've ever come across. We didn't have to raise our voices to talk to each other at all. The copters seemed to be following us for the next ten minutes or so and then disappeared.

Earth is NOT the only planet with life, there are many more in other solar systems, some may be on a par with us, some will be more primitive and others will be more advanced than we are, these will be where the visitors come from, they study us,and if we befriend them, they could be a great help to us. Their physical forms may or may not be like ours....But I think they probably are.
