The
survey aims to find the most commonly seen garden birds.
Will
the familiar starling and house sparrow still be the two most common
species and are they still declining?
Back
in 1979, the first year of Big Garden Birdwatch, a national average
of 15 starlings were seen per garden.

Will
the house sparrow remain Wiltshire's top bird? |
The
results for last year’s survey revealed that this number had dropped
alarmingly to just four.
The
RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch was also one of the first indications
of a fall in song thrush numbers in our gardens.
Today
the song thrush isn’t even in Wiltshire’s top 10 common garden birds.
You
don’t have to be an expert to take part.
Simply
spend one hour over the weekend of 25th/26th January counting the
birds in your garden or local park and record the highest number
of each bird species seen at any one time.
