The
most famous name under the British Big Top is on the road again
after almost 30 years.
Billy Smart's Circus is touring the country and is on it's way to
Swindon.
Billy Smart's New World Circus hit the road in 1946 when the famous
showman, 'The Guv'nor', bought a Big Top and tossed in a few circus
acts as an 'extra attraction' to his funfair.
The circus took off, big time, leaving the funfair far behind.

the Clown - "he's really fit" |
Over
the next 25 years Smart's, known as 'the Big Show', became a household
name touring the country under a massive 5,000 seat Big Top.
And on TV 'the Big Show' pulled in record viewing figures, of 21
million plus, and a
'Tribute to Billy Smart' made history as the BBC's first-ever colour
broadcast.
Even after Billy Smart's regular touring ceased, in 1971, the TV
programmes continued as a Christmas tradition.
