Winner
of hit TV show Reborn in The USA, Tony Hadley will be coming to
Salisbury City Hall on Wednesday 25th June 2003 to perform a night
of hit songs.
Tony
Hadley was the unmistakable voice of Spandau Ballet who bestrode
the 80s pop charts with hit after classic hit such as 'True', 'Gold'
and 'I'll Fly For You'.
During
the 80s, Tony staked his claim as one of popular music's greatest
vocalists. Spandau sold over 20 million records worldwide and reached
No. 1 in 21 countries with 'True'.
Although
Spandau Ballet split somewhat acrimoniously, Tony continues to tour
and perform the songs which made him famous. Spandau drummer John
Keeble and occasionally saxophonist Steve Norman are also members
of his touring band.
He
recently sang the theme tune for the BBC series "Down To Earth"
and made his acting debut in the final episode of that series.
One
of his greatest achievements came earlier this year when he won
the celebrity reality TV show 'Reborn in the USA'.
The
Hit ITV show saw 10 pop stars from yesteryear battle it out onstage
in America.
They
travelled around the USA in a tour bus and stopped off at a different
city each week and performed in an intimate venue in front of a
local crowd.
Proving
popular with the American crowd ensured a spot on the bus to the
next city, but each week, the two performers with the least number
of votes were subjected to a head to head battle.
The
outcome was then decided by the British public who got the opportunity
to vote for their favourite performer over the next week.
Tony
Hadley eventually won the contest which saw him beat former pop
stars such as Gina G, Sonia and Peter Cox of Go West fame.
BBC
Wiltshire recently spoke to Tony about the whole 'Reborn in the
USA' experience, what fans can expect from the current tour and
whether Spandau Ballet will ever reunite.
