Legendary
twangy guitar band The Shadows recently played at Bournemouth's
International Centre and BBC Radio Wiltshire's resident rock n'n
roll guru Geoff Barker was on hand to interview Bruce Welch and
Hank Marvin from the band.
The
Shadows, who started out as Cliff Richard's backing band - The Drifters
have enjoyed a career spanning nearly 50 years in the music industry.
In the early 60s the band became Britain's most successful instrumental
group and had a string of hits including 'Apache', 'F.B.I.' and
'Kon-Tiki'.
Their
latest greatest hits double CD set 'Life Story' recently went gold
in the UK album charts and the band's current 'farewell tour' has
proved extremely popular on the live rock 'n' roll nostalgia circuit.
Earlier
this month, Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and Brian Bennett were each
awarded an OBE, although Hank declined the honour.
Geoff
Barker spoke to Bruce and Hank before their Bournemouth gig to look
back over an amazing career, where he touched on the creation of
their trademark sound and prised some interesting anecdotes from
these elder statesmen of rock 'n' roll.
