It was the day Jamie Cullum fans had been waiting for. The chance to see their idol up close and personal in the intimate environs of The Apartment nightclub in Swindon.

In association with BBC Radio Swindon, Jamie played a special 'Audience with Jamie Cullum' gig to help raise money for Children in Need.

All 300 tickets were snapped up in just 20 minutes when they went on sale two weeks ago. Generous gig-goers also dug deep and donated much more to the charity on the day.

The gig was a sort of homecoming for Jamie who has enjoyed a whirlwind year. Just 12 months ago he was playing The Apartment and other local venues as a virtual unknown.

Since then, he won a £1m recording contract with Universal Records, played all around the globe and saw his debut album 'Twentysomething' hit the number three spot in the UK charts.

BBC Radio Swindon's Sandy Martin and Shelley Keen hosted the event and between songs asked Jamie questions sent in by listeners.

Jamie went on to wow The Apartment with a superlative show featuring his most well-known numbers including 'I Get a Kick Out of You' and 'What a Difference a Day Made'.

He also found time to include a festive classic 'Let it Snow'. Jamie also vowed to keep on playing as long as people continued to donate money to Children in Need. The show eventually over-ran by 30 minutes!

This was Jamie's last gig of 2003 but his plans for world domination continue in earnest early in the New Year.
