From
Sheaf to Loaf in a Day was the main event of the Wilton Windmill
Society's 2003 Country Fair, when the public were invited to join
in a day-long celebration at the only working windmill in Wessex.

Windmill |
Wilton
Windmill was built in 1821 as a replacement for the seven watermills
lost when the Kennet and Avon Canal was completed.
It
employed the latest technology for it's time and was constructed
by a local builder from Wilton.
The
windmill was worked for 100 years during difficult times for farmers
because of low corn prices.
In
the 1920's, the advent of electric and steam powered mills had brought
about the decline of most wind and water mills.

Windmill then lay idle for some 50 years and was eventually
bought in 1971 by Wiltshire County Council and then leased to the
Wiltshire Historic Buildings Trust.
The
2003 Old Fashioned Country Fair is the Society's principal fundraising
event - a day-long fun event for all the family.
