'The Figure in Motion' is a new adrenaline pumped exhibition on display at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

Created by keen local snowboarder, Rebecca Williams, the exhibition is rooted deep in the underground, skate-snowboard-graffitti culture.

Canvases of snowboarding and skateboarding snaps, stressed with graffiti colours, create a fusion of mixed-media which captures the feel and energy of hip-hop and underground urban lifestyles.

Images of Tamworth Snow and the Val Thorens resort, in the French Alps, merge with graffiti art and wind torn fly posters to create a street influenced, high energy exhibition with loads of street cred.

A graduate of the University of Central England in Birmingham Rebecca is currently working in the hospital's library.

Her ambition though is to become a print and textile designer which explains the 'art meets street fashion' marriage played out in The Figure in Motion.

But her main inspiration is board sports and her work is stuffed with the movement, speed and freedom of the sport:

"Snowboarding has provided me with a fresh insight into life, approaches and my design," says Rebecca.

"It was only from visiting the French Alps in February 2003 that I became aware about the soul of the sport despite having snowboarded for 18 months previously.

"Essentially it is about pushing your limits and in some senses taking a risk. It is an expression of creativity and style, freedom, progression and movement."
