Sporting talent from the region gathered at Bath University on Sunday 7th December for the 2008 BBC West Sports Awards. The BBC West's Sports Personality of the Year for 2008 was awarded to Wiltshire's Anne Dunham. The Paralympic dressage rider from Broad Hinton near Swindon beat competition from the likes of Mark Foster and Ben Ainslie at the ceremony at the University of Bath. Anne won three medals at this summer's games in Hong Kong, including her first ever individual gold. She was overwhelmed and surprised to be honoured in this way. On receiving her award she said: "Words fail me. I think I just might cry!" ![]() Don Cannon The West's Unsung Hero for 2008 is Don Cannon - who lives at Little Bedwyn near Marlborough. Don was honoured for his hours of voluntary work with the Bowmoor Sailing Club on the Wiltshire/Gloucestershire border. He said: "I was surprised and honoured, but overall very pleased because it was in recognition of sailing." He now gets to attend the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony in Liverpool next weekend.
