Doctor Who fan finds God

A Doctor Who fan from Trowbridge has turned his back on the show after discovering Christianity. Listen to our interview.

Simon White, 47, from Trowbridge was, like many fans of the much-loved BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who, quite the obsessive.

Simon's Cyberman

Simon's Cyberman

Over the years he has amassed a huge collection of Doctor Who merchandise and memorabilia, much to his long-suffering wife Jacqui's consternation.

Just some of the objects cluttering their house include an authentic working Dalek, two life-size Cybermen and a scale model of the Doctor's robot dog, K-9. His garden also houses a full-size TARDIS replica!

But now, the retired hospital nurse has decided to get rid of the lot. Simon has Bipolar Disorder and for many tears battled an alcohol addiction. In his darkest days it was only his Doctor Who obsession which saw him through.

Finding God

Recently however, something else has happened to his life which has helped him turn things around - he became a born-again Christian.

Since discovering Christianity, Simon is teetotal and no longer feels compelled to collect every item of Doctor Who merchandise around. As a result, one of the most impressive hoards of memorabilia in the South West is currently up for sale.

Collection for sale

Simon estimates his collection runs to over 1000 items including numerous models, actual props used in the original series and hundreds of books, DVDs and videos. Fans interested in purchasing items from his vast collection should keep an eye on eBay over the coming weeks.

Graham Rogers from the Mid-Morning Show on BBC Radio Wiltshire recently spoke to Simon about trading the good Doctor for God, and found out all about his impressive collection.

Although Simon has found the Father and the Son but ditched the spirt (although not Holy) I think that he should reconsider selling off the memorabilia, because he may regret it and once all the TARDIS's have gone he won't be able to travel back (or forwards) in time to recapture the lost items. I also think Simon should pehaps consider donating some of the things to a museum instead of selling the things off for cash, because he may fall into the trap of worshipping money more than God and Every good (and bad) Christian knows that the love of money is the root of all evil.
