UNDERGROUND - BBC Radio Swindon and BBC Radio Wiltshire's weekly radio show dedicated to local bands and musicians returned for an all-new, one-off End of Year special show on Sunday 30th December. Listen back to the show online in streaming Real Audio by clicking the link further down the page.
UNDERGROUND - which finished up its fourth series in July features the latest band demos, a guide to the best gigs taking place around the area, band interviews, exclusive live sessions, gig reports, and interviews with Wiltshire music scene movers and shakers.
For this one-off holiday special, presenter Daniel Garrett played new tracks from some of the best bands heard on the last series. But as always the emphasis is on unearthing new talent, so the playlist for this show included some great up-and-coming Wiltshire acts destined to soar in the New Year.
Talk in Code
Talk in Code
Guests in the studio on this special show were Chris and Damien from up-and-coming Swindon melodic rockers Talk in Code. They came in to talk up the recently-formed band who are tipped for big things in 2008.
Talk in Code also exclusively recorded two live tracks for UNDERGROUND which were played on the show.
The local music scene Mover and Shaker this week was Swindon Oasis Leisure Centre Event Organiser Michelle Jones who came on to reflect on an amazing year of gigs at the venue. 2007 saw top international acts such as Kings of Leon, The Fratellis, McFly and Hard-Fi play there.
UNDERGROUND roving reporter Will Walder recently met up with Swindon-based girl group The Mentalists who received extensive national exposure this year after getting down to the final 10 in the T4 Mobile Act Unsigned band competition on Channel 4 recently.
Even though they didn't win the contest - their quirky alterna-pop won them many new fans around the country - and in his report, Will found out what the experience was like for the band.
And Shaun Buswell returned for 'The Buzz with Buswell' - he took a look back at the ups-and-downs of the Wiltshire music scene in 2007, and gave his usual run-down of all the best gigs talking place in and around Wiltshire over the first week of the New Year.
On the UNDERGROUND playlist for this special show were:
Pause. Break. Riot! - 'Free Money'
UNDERGROUND will return for series five in Spring 2008. Wiltshire bands and musicians who wish to be considered for that should send in their demos to Daniel Garrett, UNDERGROUND, BBC Wiltshire, Broadcasting House, 56-58 Prospect Place, Swindon, Wilts, SN1 3RW.
