Cult BBC2 sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf may have ended in 1999 but the show's popularity is still as strong as ever. Fan conventions and cast signing sessions still take place all over the world such as the event which reunited the entire cast at Swindon memorabilia store Infinitely Better in April. All eight seasons of the show have now been released on DVD and gone on to be top sellers. This month the show arrives on UMD (Universal Media Disc) for the Playstation. The cast out-takes collection entitled 'Smeg-Ups' is out now on the format.
 | | Robert as Kryten |
To promote the UMD releases, actor Robert Llewellyn - who under a mountain of prosthetic make-up memorably played Canadian-accented robot 'Mechanoid' Kryten over six seasons - spoke to BBC Radio Wiltshire's Mark Seaman about his time on the show. Among other things, Mark asked Robert to sum up Red Dwarf's enduring appeal and what it was like to write an episode in the much-maligned seventh season. Robert also spoke of co-star Craig Charles' recent tabloid troubles and how he felt the show was affected in its later years by the departure of key writer Rob Grant. |
