The Three Magi sculpture
The Three Magi sculpture

A surreal seasonal sculpture

As an alternative to reindeers and Santa's, a Wiltshire-based sculptor has designed an unusual Christmas sculpture.

If you are tired of inflatable snowmen and illuminated Santas and Reindeers adorning the lawns ahead of Christmas, the latest piece of sculpture from Warminster-based Anthony Wilson will likely appeal to you.

Anthony, who works with reclaimed and recycled materials, has created an alternative take on the traditional three kings on their journey to Bethlehem for his 'Three Magi' statue.

Working with motorcycle frames and assorted discarded scrap metal he has created a unique piece of Christmas themed art.

He said: "The story of the three kings following the star to the manager is well know throughout the world"

"it has been represented in many art forms, but I think this is the first time that the king’s journey has been depicted as a surreal sculpture."

The Three Magi are not the first venture into the world of surreal sculpture for Anthony and his other creations range from the wonderfully named 'Insectoids' through 'Space Invaders,' and Giant Spiders to Dinosaurs, Giants and Monsters.

Entertaining, as these pieces of art are the sculptor felt that they were hardly in keeping with the season.

"The monsters and space aliens are always in demand at Halloween,” he said. "But I really wanted to create something in keeping with the festive season while still using my chosen medium of recycled material."
