Cartoon characters take over Lacock

Top Cat, the Teletubbies, Postman Pat and Big Bird are just some of the scarecrows lurking on the Lacock Scarecrow Trail...

Popping out of dustbins, dangling from roofs, peering out of windows and lurking in gardens the village of Lacock is literally crawling with cartoon characters.

In fact the whole village has been taken over by some of the top A-listers from kid’s TV programs all in town for the annual Lacock Scarecrow Trail.

The trail, which kicked off on Good Friday, is organised by the Friends of Lacock School and runs until Sunday 17th April 2005.

Now in its third year the trail was tramped, last year, by over a thousand eager scarecrow hunters who raised over £3,500 for Lacock Primary School.

This year scarecrow hunters can wander along a well marked trail where over 40 kiddies characters are lurking.

Characters like Mr Bump who is confidently balanced on a ledge (he’s obviously no stranger to taking risks), Top Cat is in a 'Des-Res' dustbin, Captain Pugwash seems to be curtain twitching and there's even a pretty big Big Bird.

All of the cartoon scarecrows, on the trail, have been brought to life by local residents, parents, shops and businesses.  And with a substantial prize on offer for the best scarecrow in the village, competition is to say the least fierce…

So if you want to go scarecrow hunting than pick up a £1.00 trail sheet from one of the local shops.  Not only will you have a chance of winning some prizes but you might, just might, get to see something that has never been seen before….
