They are literally everywhere. At the last count there were a massive 90,000 in over 190 countries. In Wiltshire alone there are more than 50 within a 15 mile radius of Devizes and now there’s one more just on the outskirts of Swindon. No, not roundabouts… Geocaches. Geocaching

It was over a year ago that the BBC website team made its first day trip into the world of Geocaching. (Click on the 'A Geocaching we will go...' link in the right hand column for the full story.) Recently, Points West's Wiltshire reporter, Steve Knibbs, went one better and actually created a BBC Points West cache just outside Swindon. The BBC Points West Cache It was hidden in Stanton Park, near Swindon. Stanton Country Park is a Local Nature Reserve just off the main A361 Swindon to Highworth Road. What was in the Cache? The cache had loads of BBC goodies including autographed photographs of presenters, a travel bug and a disposable camera. Steve has now been back to the site and developed the photos taken by the geocachers who found the site. You can see all the pictures by clicking the link on the right hand side. Don't forget you can also see all the logs by visiting the official points west cache page on www.geocaching.com |
