From SAS to SASSY!

Personnel at the Drove Veterinary Hospital have reached their £5000 target to help buy a Guide Dog. BBC Wiltshire joined the party and met some of the four-legged support staff to find out how the team raised the cash.

She was born on August 7th 2004 and destined to become a Guide Dog after staff at Drove Veterinary Hospital raised the £5000 needed.

But what about a name for the new recruit?

After Nicky Bint, Anne Walton, Jo Mitchell and Sue Rolfe from Drove took part in an 'SAS Challenge' to help raise the cash, they came up with 'Sassy'  - and by all accounts the five-month-old yellow Labrador has quite taken to her name!

As well as taking part in the SAS Challenge, held in July 2004 in the wilds of the Breacon Beacons, the hospital staff have been adding to their £5000 total by selling a calendar featuring pictures from their photo competition, and last year, the hospital held an open day that raised nearly £2000.

BBC Radio Swindon has promised to follow Sassy's training - helped by the pup's new trainers Nicola and Andrew Cornick, and the BBC Wiltshire website will also be keeping an eye on Sassy's progress.

She'll be in training for around six weeks before being ready to join her new owner - who will also be given time to get to know their new Guide Dog.

Take a look at our online gallery of pictures from the Drove Veterinary Hospital's 'Sassy Celebration' and meet some members of four-legged staff!

Also, listen to Kelly Stooke's interviews for BBC Radio Swindon to find out more.
