Legend - Robin of Sherwood convention - Interviews and pictures

Swindon's Hilton Hotel was the setting for Legend - A Robin of Sherwood convention. Listen to our interviews with the stars who attended and visit our image gallery.

Legend - The UK Robin of Sherwood Convention took place over the weekend of Friday 27th-Sunday 29th August 2004 at the Hilton Hotel in Swindon.

Over 100 fans of the cult 80s telefantasy series descended on the venue and some travelled from as far afield as Belgium and Germany.

Just some of the attractions over the weekend included a Robin of Sherwood quiz where trivia buffs could pit their wits against each other to win a top prize, an auction and a location trip to Lacock Abbey where an episode of the series was filmed.

Many stalls around the convention hall offered medieval style trinkets and accessories as well as rare merchandise from the series. Convention goers could  also try their hand at a number of era-authentic games such as crossbow target shooting.

Over the course of the three days, a huge video screen played classic episodes from the series and on the Saturday evening The Offstage Theatre Group performed their play 'Robbin' The Legend' during the medieval-themed banquet.

Star guests at the convention were actors Nickolas Grace and Phil Rose. Nickolas memorably played the wicked Sheriff of Nottingham in the series and Phil was portly merry man Friar Tuck.  Also making an appearance was series creator Richard Carpenter who attended with his wife Annabel Lee. Annabel played Mad Mab in the third season episode 'Rutterkin'.

On the Sunday the convention ended with a buffet and a disco. The event was such a success that the organisers have confirmed that then next Legend convention will take place in 2006.

Hi! I am from Sri Lanka, far away from UK. I watched it in 1980s and it is still broadcasting occasionally. For most Sri Lankans it is the favorite TV series watched, we still love it. A good story, with a good cast. I wish they will make another one, with the same cast after 24 years.

FAN from inFANcy
I remember watching Robin of Sherwood for the 1st time in the 80s i was about 6 years old and i loved it then! I watched its repeat on sky1 in the early 90s and as a sexed up teenager fell madly in love with Nasir! I actually bought all three series on video tape with my first wages, when leaving school, it took me about a year to save up in total but SOOOOOOO worth it! Now i can pause on Nazir's face and dream my evening away, (sad i know!???!)

I would love to see this put to high quality DVD. It would be a wonder to be able to watch a showe I barely remember from when I was a little girl, and to add it to my collection of Robin Hood stories I've collected over the years.

BIG NAME FANS
Kip wants to do a new project--with Michael Praed returning as Herne. Support it guys! Don't know what they will do about nasir though--he looks nearly as big as Tuck these days!

David Rodgers
I thought this series was cool 20 years ago, and I got the recent dvds to relive my childhood over again. I was suprised at how some of the cast hadn't changed, and how some of them were totally unrecognisable. Mark Ryan for instance has lost all his hair and gotten really fat. I used to really dig the saracen back then, but now he looks crap. Jason Connery I never liked much. His performance was really staged. It seems he hasn't improved over the years. Good memories on the whole.

I thought the original content of this series was wonderfully thoughtful & a great attempt to bring the Robin Hood legend to us in a whole new way. What a shame Kevin Costner had to go & spoil it... Richard Carpenter should be knighted for his contribution to TV with this timeless classic. P.S. Nazir was a hottie!!!

geartsje lei

Sajid Riaz

Duane
I play my old videotapes that I recorded back in the 1980's over and over again. This is such an excellent series with a production value generally unseen at that time. I don't understand why we don't see this show in syndication!!

James Turner
Terrific series I've got the dvds but would love to see it repeated on tv

hummingbird
can you produce it on to dvd please? Or repeat the series so l can tape it! What is M. Praed doing now?

Mike Giddens
The best series ever, both Robins were perfect, and the wondefull Marion, in fact everybody involved done a fantastic job, that is why R. O.S is still so popular, run it again sam.

Charlotte Lawrence
It was the best ever and the episodes and adventures never get old. Re-run it! I know it was ITV but hey why don't you lot give it a go?

Alison
It about time Ros was repeated. All do a special on the cast, sadly Robert Abbie is no longer with us

Scott Clay
the best fiction series ever please repeat this would be a dead cert on weekday s at 6.30pm

Lesley Sapsford
Why has the series 'Robin of Sherwood' never been repeated on terrestial TV? There's probably a whole new generation of people out there who have never even heard of the series, let alone seen it!

An old fan
Put it back on television - someone repeat it on terrestial TV please
