Swindon Town new stadium plans
Swindon Town new stadium plans

Stadium plans blocked

Plans to build Swindon Town's new stadium, in the west of the town, were effectively blocked on Thursday night.

Swindon Town are back to square one in their search for a new stadium after their plans to build in the west of the town were effectively blocked on Thursday night.

"I'm just a bit shocked really that we weren't allowed to submit our complete proposals."
Bob Holt

Councillors passed a motion re-affirming their commitment to keep their site at Shaw as a forest, and not allow any development.

It is the second site in Swindon the club have tried to develop, only to fail.

Town Director, Bob Holt, says it is time to take stock:

"This is going to be a bitter disappointment to us all.  I'm just a bit shocked really that we weren't allowed to submit our complete proposals but the Council must do what they see fit with the land."

Meanwhile developers St. Modwens say they are not just fair weather friends of the football club and would like to ask the council if they have any alternative sites.

The company is still prepared to offer the same facilities to the people of Swindon as in the original proposal.
