tina Report: Show One

In the first show of the series, Graham introduced the eight acts asking the question: When Will I Be Famous?

First we had a comedy showdown with Kevin Johnson competing against James Brown. Kevin stepped to the mic first with puppets Matilda and Clyde and "Godzilla Theatre". James Brown's act involved close-up magic.

Dave Spikey was impressed. "Variety's back, ladies and gentlemen… James was very slick; the patter was great, very likeable." "I thought Kevin was very clever... I don't particularly like ventriloquist acts but I thought he was very clever," said Max Clifford, adding that he thought James had the edge.

Chuck Harris disagreed. "Your act is stale to me. I've seen many acts do exactly what you do. Kevin, you're brilliant - the best ventriloquist I've seen in my life." The 101 armchair judges agreed with Chuck - 71 per cent put Kevin Johnson through to the next round.

Next was the battle of the street moves, Zoo Nation vs. Rob Alton. Rob hurt himself during rehearsals and Graham warned that he may have to stop if it got too painful.

Chuck knew which act he preferred, "Zoo Nation, unbelievable - you're terrific." The armchair judges didn't agree - they chose Rob, with 56 per cent voting for him.

They say never work with children and animals but Graham chose to work with both in the third showdown of the evening. First, Shaun Walsh sang I'll Be There. He faced stiff competition in the form of Tina and Chandi (the dog).

"The dog act was nothing exciting as far as I'm concerned… The young boy has a great future. I want to see you in five or six years from now. I want you as my client," said professional booker, Chuck. Once again, the public disagreed, with 59 per cent of the vote going to Tina and Chandi.

Contortionist Valerie Murzak took on human balloon Bruce Airhead in the final showdown of the evening. "To me you've saved the best acts to last. Bruce that is modern variety at its best," said Dave. 61 per cent of armchair judges agreed and Bruce went through to the head-to-head.

In the results show, our four top acts of the evening came back to face a public phone vote. The votes frozen, it was announced that Bruce would face Tina and Chandi in the head-to-head. After both acts had performed once more, the time had come for Graham to announce the winner. A delighted Tina and Chandi walked away with the £10,000 prize.
