How do I find someone's e-mail address? Print this article

You can find someone's e-mail address by looking at their website, using a search engine or looking them up in a directory.

It can be useful because you can't always call up someone or look at their website to find out their e-mail address.

Let's say, you have forgotten your best school friend's e-mail address and phone number you'll need these tips to find it again.

Start simple

To find out the e-mail address for a company, check out their website. If you don't know the URL for the company it's worth taking a guess: http://www.companyname.com or http://www.companyname.co.uk if they are in the UK.

Using a normal search engine (like Yahoo or AltaVista) and searching for the company's name is another way to find their homepage and then their e-mail address.

Directories

To search for somebody's e-mail address you can try a service like bigfoot.com which allows you to scan for e-mail addresses. Also see the links below:
Yahoo!

192.com

Infobel

However, these sites are not like 'directory enquiries' or the phone book. This is because the e-mail addresses aren't given out by just one place like phone numbers so often the directories just don't have the e-mail address you need.

That means finding e-mail addresses can be difficult and a little frustrating.

A lot of these on-line directories also ask you to register. They do this so that they have your e-mail address in case anyone searches for it.

Because all the directories don't 'talk' to each other registering with one still doesn't guarantee people will find your address.

Simplest is best

Again, you can also try to find out if they have a home page and get their e-mail address from there.

And, don't forget, often the easiest way to get an e-mail address that you can't remember is to phone up the person and ask them.
