How do you download a file? Print this article

Another thing to remember

Problems can be caused when you try to save large amounts of data on the desktop.

It may be that you downloaded them here because it's easy to find, but you could set up a special folder for downloads and specify this location every time.

Double click the My Computer icon on your Windows desktop. Double click on the C: drive and do a right mouse click inside the new window.

Choose 'New Folder' in the 'New' menu and name this 'Downloads'. You can create sub-folders for different downloads within this.

Compressed

Some of the files you download from the net may be compressed to make the file smaller and thus make them quicker to download. You'll know this because the extension .zip appears at the end of the file name. To decompress the file you need a program like WinZip or Stuffit.
