How do you download a file? Print this article

All you need to do to download a file is save it to your PC.

It's a good thing to know how to do, especially when you want to try out new software or get an attachment from your webmail.

So, next time you want to download a picture from your webmail you will know how to do it.


Downloading a file

  1. Click on the file link to start the download.
  2. A window will open asking if you want to 'Run this program from its current location' or 'Save this program to disk'. Choose the option to save.
  3. A window will open showing you the folders on your hard disk. It's easiest to save on your desktop.
  4. Click 'Save' and you will see how long you should wait for the download to complete. Wait a moment for this to have an accurate estimate.
  5. After the file has downloaded click on 'Open' to open the file.


Downloading an image

  1. To download an image you simply click on it in your web browser. On a PC you right-click the mouse and choose 'Save Image'.
  2. Choose the directory your machine is saving the images to and make a mental note so you can find them once you've downloaded them!
  3. To look at saved images, find them and then drag them into your browser and drop them - it should display them automatically.
