More snow for Central USA by Penny Tranter

Another round of snow is currently making its way across Central USA, from the Rocky Mountains all the way through much of the Great Plains. This quick-hitting storm system will dump 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 cms) of fresh snow across some states. The exact track of the storm is still open to question but Denver residents were expecting several inches of snow on Thursday adding to the 8 inches that fell on Christmas Day.

At least one person died in Texas on Thursday in a car-related accident as a combination of snow, freezing temperatures and poor visibility made driving treacherous in the Panhandle.

The US Great Plains and the Great Lakes region took a pounding just a few days before Christmas from an intense winter storm, which produced widespread and heavy falls of snow, blizzard conditions and severe wind chills. Hundreds of accidents were reported as far south as Texas where there was a 50 vehicle pile-up on an Interstate. In addition winds gusting as high as 70 mph felled numerous trees and power lines, with hundreds of flights also being cancelled.

The snow is not all bad, as Colorado ski resorts are enjoying these frequent snowstorms. Many ski resorts were very low on snow during November and had to make do with machine-made snow, but due to recent back-to-back storms are now 100 percent open.
