A cold artic blast has spread across most of the northern Europe from the British Isles to western Russia. Thursday was cold in Aberdeen, Scotland with falling snow and temperatures not getting above freezing for the day. A normal November high would be 8C. Snow fell across many other parts of the UK especially across higher ground Thursday night into Friday morning. 7cm of lying snow was recorded at Haversage, South Yorkshire and a dusting of snow fell as far south as the northern Home Counties. Up to an inch of rain fell across parts of England and Wales. The storm brought 30.2 mm of rain to Sennybridge, Wales. The same storm also brought quite a bit of rain to other parts of Europe. 15mm of rain fell in Plock, Poland in 18 hours on Thursday. This is well above the average for the entire month of 32mm.

The cold artic air made it quite chilly for many other parts of northern Europe. In Moscow it was colder than normal with the afternoon high reaching only -2C with snow showers. The normal high this time of year is 2C.

Artic air that has moved across Europe has made it feel like winter for many but not everyone. A light jacket was all that was needed across much of the Balkans on Thursday. Belgrade, Serbia on Thursday reached 17C which is 6C warmer than the average November high. The afternoon highs across southern Spain afternoon highs reached the lower 20’s.
One place that you would expect to be typically cold has actually been warmer than normal, Siberia. The town of Dudinka, Siberia which is north of the artic circle was 15C above the normal high. A much warmer day for them on Thursday at -6C as opposed instead of a typical high of -21C
