Storms reign over tropical Asia by Jay Wynne

Tropical Asia is being pummelled by two storms, one of which is already a tropical cyclone and another which is developing into one.

Tropical Storm 07B is around 200 miles northeast of Sri Lanka and 150 miles east off the coast of Tamil Nadu, in the southwestern Bay of Bengal. It is producing heavy rain and flooding across the southeast of India and northern Sri Lanka.

07B currently has sustained winds of 60mph and is expected to drift northwards over the next few days, coming close to Madras on Tuesday morning.

Another storm which is in the South China Sea has been causing havoc across the Philippine islands. In Manila on Luzon 10 villages have been flooded by thunderstorms forcing 15,000 people to evacuate their homes.

The islands were also hammered by winds in excess of 60mph as the storm begins to show signs of forming into a tropical cyclone. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center based in Hawaii, said that they expect it to become a tropical cyclone tonight and head northeast taking its centre towards Vietnam.
