A sunnier day for much of the UK by Alex Deakin

Summary of UK Weather for Tuesday 18 November 2008.

A series of frontal bands with cloudy, relatively mild and moist air
covered England and Wales through Monday night and into the first part of Tuesday. These brought with them occasional light rain and drizzle before moving away southeastwards, clearing from southeast England by around midday.

A fresher, northwesterly airflow then followed to all parts. The cloud
broke in many areas to give some sunshine, the best of this in any shelter from the moderate or fresh northerly or northwesterly winds.

A few light showers affected western parts of Wales and the far southwest of England during the afternoon and evening.

Further cloud and occasional light rain pushed back into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland by early evening.

Maximum temperatures were generally near normal.
