UK hit by further flooding by Steph Ball
Clear up operations began today across several parts of the UK hit by another bout of flooding, not least the town of Tenbury Wells in Worcestershire.
The town suffered severe flooding less than three weeks ago when the River Tem broke its banks, flooding homes and businesses. On Tuesday a severe thunderstorm brought renewed flooding with waters rapidly rising in just a matter of minutes. The water level is said to have reached a metre in places.
Flooding was also reported across parts of Yorkshire, with two schools closed in Leeds after the ground and first floors flooded as thunderstorms continued to rattle across the UK. Meanwhile in Northern Ireland, severe flooding kept the Dublin to Belfast road closed for much of Tuesday.
A tornado spawned by the storms is reported to have hit the town of Tibberton, Gloucestershire, with residents reporting a skip having been picked up and flung more than 100 metres through the air.
There appears to be no reprieve to the unsettled weather across the UK. This morning the Met Office issued yet another early warning of heavy rain, with the rain expected to hit the country through Friday and Saturday. An inch of rain is forecast to fall quite widely, while at present, southern and eastern parts of England are expected to be the worst affected.
