Storms blast more snow and ice across the Midwest by Penny Tranter
There was a strong sense of déjà vu across the Midwest on Saturday as many states were hit by a second winter storm in less than a week. Missouri was one of the first states to be hit by the snow and freezing rain, where thousands of people still remained without power after a storm earlier in the week.
Oklahoma, hardest hit by the first storm was spared the snow, as light rain instead fell across the state. However in neighbouring Kansas more than 12 inches (30.5cm) of snow fell as the storm barrelled across the plains. Concerns over the approaching storm led the University of Connecticut to cancel their degree ceremony in fear of guests travelling on ice laded roads.
The storm is currently tracking north-east towards New England where storm watches and warnings have been extended across more than a dozen states. Residents from Detroit to Boston are preparing themselves for another burst of winter, with as much as 10 inches (25cm) of snow forecast to fall in Detroit over the coming days.
