Strong typhoon brushes Tokyo by Sean Batty
On Monday morning Japan had not only been hit by a powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake but also by one of the most powerful typhoons the country has seen in decades.
The typhoon skirted the Japanese capital and moved away northeastwards on Monday leaving three dead and causing widespread flooding.
Typhoon Man-Yi was losing strength as it crossed to the southwest of Tokyo and was later downgraded to a tropical storm with sustained winds of 51mph as of Monday morning.
Even though the storm is easing and moving away from the country authorities are still warning of the possibility of more flooding, landslides and high waves.
During the weekend at least 80 people were injured as the typhoon drove its way up Honshu island's east coast, many from being knocked over by the strong winds.
High winds off the Izu island chain south of Tokyo whipped up incredible waves which reached 9 metres (30ft) in height.
Man-Yi is the strongest typhoon on record to hit Japan in the month of July, when these storms are relatively rare.
