Never let it be said that weather stops being weather when it falls out of the sky.
For those in the flood ravaged town of Mapou in Haiti there seems to be no end to the devastating weather conditions. The rain fell three weeks ago but the inhabitants are still feeling the effects - indeed the town is still partially submerged. Mapou lies on the Haitian- Dominican border and both countries have suffered casualties.
Over the weekend typhoon Chanthu hit central Vietnam. It affected five provinces, bringing torrential rain and strong winds. Seven fishermen lost their lives as the storm moved onshore and hundreds of homes were destroyed. The associated floods are still present here too.
A storm, spawned by a monsoon depression in the Bay of Bengal , lashed Cox's Bazar and neighbouring Teknaf coastlines over the weekend. Waves reached 12 metres high and winds gusted to 30 mph.
In Southern Russia persistent and heavy rains have caused water levels to rise in the Irkutsk region. Several of the local rivers and their tributaries are already rising to dangerous levels and the locals have been warned that the rivers could rise by as much as 50-150 cm over the next few days because of rain flowing down from the hills.
And in the USA storms hit the southern state of Kansas over the weekend disrupting the Champions Golf Tour once and for all. The weather had been atrocious all week with the course receiving over 100mm of rain during the week. Tornado warnings were also issued on Saturday night. Perhaps, not suprisingly then, the final round was cancelled due to the weather.
Back home in the UK there are no storms to worry about apart from Nebraska Tornado, running at Ascot on Tuesday!
