Spring Snow by John Hammond

Parts of the United States have been blanketed by snow and forecasters predict worse weather is yet to come.

The National Weather Service (NWS) say cold arctic air from Canada is colliding with warmer air over the States, creating a ‘spring chill.’ The storm will bring heavy snow to Colorado, and Texas and Louisiana will also be hit with severe weather. Forecasters are predicting up to 25 cm (10 in) of snow in Denver and almost 45 cm (18 in) around the foothills of the Rockies during Friday.

Snow storms in different parts of the U.S.A have upset all expectations of warm spring weather anytime soon.

In the Northeast, the NWS issued snow warnings for many areas in New England. Most parts have already received some snow, which has caused chaos in some areas.
A ski resort re-opened in Vermont. A jet trying to land at Traverse City, Michigan, skidded 15 metres (50 feet) off a runway in the heavy snow on Thursday. In Chicago more than 550 flights were cancelled at O’Hare International Airport because of poor visibility.

The storm will move into New York State and milder more ‘spring-like’ weather will follow over the weekend.
