Cold plunge brings further snow for the US by Steph Ball
Mid week saw a winter storm bring further snow for parts of Washington State, with the snow descending further south across parts of Northwest Oregon.
This was the second significant snowfall of the winter for western parts of Washington. Although for many parts it amounted to little more than an inch, there were reports in some areas of 4 to 6 inches and as much as 10 inches to the northwest of Seattle. As with the last significant snow fall late in November, it led to widespread disruption to road travel and with schools being closed.
Residents along the northern half of the Oregon coast also woke on Thursday to beautiful snow dusted scenes. The snow even settled right on the beaches leaving a blanket about 2 inches thick and with reports of residents seen cross-country skiing. The snow and icy conditions resulted in several accidents along the coastal highways.
With the cold plunging down from Canada a winter storm also pushed its way into Utah and Nevada on Thursday, bringing snowfalls of 4 to 6 inches to parts of Utah and causing hundreds of road accidents.
The storm has since edged into northern Colorado today bringing icy conditions and a thin layer of snow along the Front Range. Further snow is forecast for Colorado with temperatures overnight expected to fall widely below freezing.
The National Weather Service has issued snow warnings for these areas with the snow forecast to edge further south today and through the weekend, across Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and into Texas.
