Plenty of Rain for South Asia by Helen McKenzie

The Southwest Indian Monsoon continues, bringing rain increasingly far north across the sub-continent. Gamroor received 89.2 mm (3.51 inches) of rain on Sunday night, with temperatures plunging sharply, providing relief from the previously very hot and humid conditions. It is not just India receiving a deluge. Bangladesh suffers with severe flooding each year, and this year has been no different. Nepal has also had its fair share of rain over recent weeks. Over 100 villages in north Bihar have been flooded, with rivers bursting their banks.

Vietnam, further to the east, hasn’t escaped either. They are in their wet season at the moment, which is due to moisture in the air brought about as a result of the monsoon. Flash flooding in Ha Giang swept seven homes away in recent days, with national road 34 having to be closed in the Vi Xuyen district.

East Asia is also in the midst of its Typhoon season, which runs from May to October. Bilis, tropical storm number four, is currently heading towards Taiwan, and is expected to bring plenty of rain between 14th and 17th July.
