London and Middlesex hit by snowstorms by Sean Batty
London, Middlesex and Oxford have been hit by a snowstorm, but I’m not talking about England, which has been un-seasonably mild so far. Instead I am talking of the London, Middlesex and Oxford counties in Ontario, Canada.
A snow squall (a band of heavy snow showers accompanied by strong gusty winds) developed over the south of Georgio Bay and Lake Huron then moved over southern parts of Ontario bringing many hours of blizzard conditions.
Toronto was also gripped by the icy weather, but it was London, Ontario that was worst hit with around 40cm being dumped during the course of Thursday night. An additional 15cm was expected to fall through Friday, but at present we have yet to receive the figures.
The snow caused many of the schools and colleges to close on Friday, while on one of the highways there was a 20 car pile-up caused by the icy conditions.
The snow has now stopped and Saturday is expected to be a dry, but rather cold day. The weather is set to become milder over the next few days as the wins switch to a more southerly direction. On Sunday temperatures are expected to reach 7C in Toronto, in comparison to today’s 2C.
