Summer weather across the UK by Rob McElwee

Over the past few days, much of the UK has been basking in unbroken sunshine with temperatures hitting the mid to high 20’s Celsius (high 70’s Fahrenheit).

A number of locations hit 25C (77F) yesterday including Great Malvern in Worcestershire, London Heathrow Airport and Crosby in Merseyside.

The current spell of dry and sunny weather has been attributed to a large area of high pressure which is centred over Scandinavia and Denmark. This has allowed a flow of southeasterly winds to blow off the near continent up across the British Isles bringing the warm and very sunny conditions.

Although many eastern parts of the UK have had a sunny start to today, some western and central parts have had a little rain, but with the high pressure firmly in charge for the next few days, it looks like many will be basking in glorious sunshine over the coming weekend.

As the high slips northwards however, forecasters expect a possible thundery addition to the warm spell during the first half of next week.
