Henriette goes to Acapulco by Kirsty McCabe
Recently formed in the Pacific Ocean, Tropical storm Henriette yesterday tracked along the western coast of Mexico, delivering heavy rain to the Acapulco region.
The Mexican government had issued a storm warning on Friday for the stretch of coastline between Manzanillo and Cabo Corrientes. Around 100mm (4 inches) of rain fell in Acapulco on Saturday, flooding homes and triggering a small landslide that killed 4 people. The storm also created waves of up to 1.5m (5 feet) in the surrounding waters, forcing many ports to close.
After delivering heavy rain to western Mexico, Henriette is now beginning to travel along the Pacific coast towards the Baja California peninsula. The storm's maximum winds were around 64mph (104.6kph) on Sunday, with forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami expecting it to strengthen into a hurricane over the next few days.
Despite this, Henriette looks unlikely to threaten any land over the coming days. However, officials in the Baja California peninsula are keeping a close eye on the storm which could come very close on Thursday.
