The island of Dominica is the most northerly of the Windward Islands, the southern segment of the Lesser Antilles. These islands lie between 15°N and the coast of the South American continent. The table for Roseau in Dominica shows that near sea level, the annual rainfall is about 1,250-2,000 mm/50-80 in, well distributed throughout the year, with a wetter season from July to November. All months receive appreciable rain, but July to November is the hurricane season and, although the most violent of these tropical storms may only strike Dominica every few years, less severe ones cause appreciable rainfall over quite a wide area. Temperature, humidity, and sunshine throughout the year are typical of those described in the general entry for the Caribbean. | |||||
