Suriname, formerly Dutch Guiana, is situated between 2° and 6°N on the Atlantic coast of South America between Guyana to the west and French Guiana to the east. In area it is smaller than Guyana and is about as large as England and Wales together. The general nature of the climate and weather of this whole area is described for Guyana. The table for Paramaribo is representative of the lowland coastal area of the country. It shows conditions almost identical with those for Georgetown in Guyana. The southern half of the country is part of the plateau region that extends eastwards from Venezuela through Guyana. Here the climatic conditions are well represented by the table for Santa Elena in Venezuela. | |||||
