Guinea is a West African country with a coastline on the Atlantic. In area it is about as large as the United Kingdom. It has an extensive coastal plain and inland the country rises to a plateau that slopes gradually eastwards towards the upper Niger valley. The climate of Guinea is similar to that of Sierra Leone. The climate of the coastal region is represented by the table for Conakry. Rainfall is particularly heavy at Conakry, which is situated on a headland. The driest part of Guinea is in the northeast along the border with Mali. Here the climate is better illustrated by the table for Bamako in Mali. | |||||
