WeatherWise - Living with the Weather - Severe

Tornadoes are very powerful Storm Chasers

Some people love the excitement of storms so much that they try to anticipate where they will form and then follow them to watch their evolution. Some even follow tornadoes and try to learn more about them. Often they will try to film or photograph them and this can take them very close to the storms, sometimes dangerously so.

Is it dangerous?

It can be very dangerous, especially when following tornadoes, but thanks to storm chasers we have learnt more about the number of weather events that take place and how they evolve.

In the US, storm chasing groups focus mainly on the 'tornado alley' area, but British storm chasers follow storms across the whole country.
