WeatherWise - Jobs in Weather

Forked lightning Further Information

Much of the practical and professional training in the United Kingdom is carried out at the Met Office College, Newton Road, Torquay, TQ2 5DH, where courses are run for Met Office staff and for sponsored students from elsewhere in the United Kingdom and from many countries around the world.

A list of the courses in British Universities with a substantial meteorological content is available by post from the Royal Meteorological Society, 104 Oxford Road, Reading, Berkshire, RG1 7LL.

Professional Accreditation

The Royal Meteorological Society offers the ultimate professional qualification of Chartered Meteorologist, with the same status as chartered accreditation in other professions such as accountancy, engineering, physics and surveying. To achieve Chartered Meteorologist accreditation requires a high level of specialist knowledge and a wise experience within the meteorological profession.

Those who wish to enter the profession at non-graduate level require A-level or HNC qualifications in a mathematical or physical science discipline. There are opportunities within the profession for vocational training leading to higher-level qualification.
