Diary of Highlights
1st to 3rd
A bright and sunny start to the month for most, although the odd thundery shower developed in the west. Temperatures at Castlederg (County Tyrone) reached 24.5 °C on the 1st and 24.2 °C on the 2nd. Another bright or sunny day on the 3rd, with the temperature reaching 22.1 °C at Belfast Newforge.
4th to 6th
A much cooler day on the 4th, with outbreaks of rain spreading east during the afternoon. The rain cleared away east overnight into the 5th, with fog patches developing as temperatures dipped to around 2 °C.
Some sunny spells through the morning of the 5th, but with cloud and outbreaks of rain edging back westwards during the afternoon. Generally a rather cloudy day on the 6th with patchy rain through the early hours dying out and scattered showers developing during the afternoon.
7th to 10th
A bright, sunny and warm day on the 7th, with temperatures reaching 21.5 °C at Belfast Newforge. More cloud around on the 8th, but bright and warm, sunny spells developed in the east.
Another mainly dry day on the 9th, rather cloudy in the west, but sunny spells in the east. Temperatures reached 25.2 °C at Helens Bay (County Down) on the 9th. A cooler day on the 10th, but mainly dry with sunny spells.
11th to 16th
Cloudy with rain at first on the 11th then brighter with some scattered showers. Mainly dry with some bright or sunny spells on the 12th, with the highest temperature only reaching 16.8 °C at Stormont Castle (County Down).
A few showers through the morning of the 13th but otherwise mainly dry with sunny spells. Outbreaks of showery rain edged south through the morning of the 14th but this cleared to leave a mainly dry afternoon with sunny spells. The 15th and 16th were bright with scattered showers.
17th to 21st
The 17th was cloudy with occasional rain, brightening to sunshine and scattered thundery showers later. The 18th had sunshine and showers with a longer spell of rain fringing the Down coast in the afternoon. Sunshine and showers, sometimes thundery, for the 19th, 20th and 21st.
22nd to 30th
Windy, with showers or longer outbreaks of rain through the 22nd, with Portglenone (County Antrim) recording 37.4 mm over a 48 hour period. Back to sunny spells and scattered showers for the 23rd. The 24th was cloudy with outbreaks of rain and a freshening south-easterly wind.
The 25th had some patchy rain or showers with the 26th also seeing some showers, these occasionally heavy. Rain spread from the west during the morning of the 27th with showers following in the afternoon. Sunny intervals and scattered showers on the 28th. Sunshine and showers again for the 29th. Thickening cloud and outbreaks of rain gradually pushed in from the west on the 30th with strengthening winds.
