A dull month with well above average rainfall.


Diary of Highlights

1st to 10th
Rain pushed east on the 1st, followed by drier and brighter conditions. Heavy showers developed during the 2nd, some thundery in places.

There were further heavy thundery showers on the 3rd and Portglenone (County Antrim) recorded 20 mm during the period 0900-2100 UTC. Sunshine and scattered showers on the 4th.

Generally cloudy on the 5th with showers, heaviest in the east. Bright intervals and showers on the 6th, again some thundery in places.

Bright intervals and showers for the 7th and 8th. Mist cleared on the 9th to leave sunny spells. Heavy rain spread north from mid-afternoon, with 26.4 mm falling in the 6 hours to midnight at St. Angelo (County Fermanagh).

Outbreaks of heavy and persistent rain continued during the 10th, with 12.8 mm in an hour at Katesbridge (County Down) during the evening, although drier conditions arrived later.

11th to 16th
Rather cloudy on the 11th, with light showers at first. The maximum temperature only reached 14 to 16 °C in most areas.

The 12th started rather cloudy with a few showers, but drier and brighter during the afternoon. Katesbridge (County Down) started the 13th with a temperature of 0.8 °C, but temperatures rose to around 19 to 20 °C in sunny spells.

Bright intervals on the 14th, but becoming cloudy with rain later. The temperature reached 24.1 °C at Helens Bay (County Down).

A band of rain passed through during the morning of the 15th, followed by brighter conditions and scattered showers. Sunny intervals and further showers on the 16th, prolonged later.

17th to 20th
Mostly cloudy on the 17th and 18th with occasional rain or showers. Showers continued on the 19th and 20th accompanied by a strong and cool north-westerly wind.

21st to 31st
A cool start to the 21st, with a temperature of 3.8 °C at Castlederg (County Tyrone), but becoming warmer with some light rain.

The 22nd and 23rd were mainly dry with sunny intervals, with the temperature reaching 23.1 °C at Ballykelly (County Londonderry) on the 23rd. Still warm on the 24th and 25th with a few showers.

Mainly dry and warm on the 26th and 27th with sunny spells. The warm spell continued on 28th, with the temperature reaching 25.9 °C at Castlederg.

Thundery rain edged northwards during the morning of the 29th, then becoming brighter for a time, before more thunderstorms towards the evening.

Rain early on the 30th and again during the evening, but brighter in between. Rather cloudy with rain on the 31st, heavy at times, and Ballypatrick Forest (County Antrim) recorded 12 mm in one hour during the evening.
