Weather Statistics - April 2000

April 2000 was a very wet month overall, with frequent outbreaks of rain and thundery showers. A cold first half with overnight frosts and some snow at times. Mostly warm or rather warm in the second half. There was record April rainfall in some places.

Rainfall 142mm 219% of the average
Temperature 7.2C 0.7C below average
Sunshine 4.69 hrs per day (mean total 122 hrs) 96% of the average

This has been the wettest April since records began in 1766, also the coldest since 1989. The average for April is 62mm and the driest April on record was in 1938 when just 7mm of rain was measured.

Please note, the average figures are taken from the period 1961-1990
