Mostly dry and bright with plenty of sunshine and light northerly winds. There is a risk of light snow showers spreading from the northeast, affecting eastern parts by the evening. Very cold with temperatures unlikely to rise above freezing.

Tonight:
A very cold night with a continued risk of frost and ice and scattered snow showers at first. Clearer spells are likely to develop after midnight. Winds remaining light.

Saturday:
Bright spells for most parts and a few snow showers, particularly over Cumbria. Another cold day with temperatures struggling to rise above freezing. Winds becoming northeasterly.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:
Outbreaks of snow are likely on Sunday and Monday, remaining cloudy but becoming drier on Tuesday. Very cold with a strong east to southeasterly wind.
